AVEVA™ P&ID

Add Lists of Components with Multi-Line Designators

Add Lists of Components with Multi-Line Designators

  • Last UpdatedMar 14, 2024
  • 3 minute read

This procedure is used to add lists of components to drawings using multi-line designators.

The content of a list is derived from a query selected during the procedure. The queries themselves are defined using the custom query functionality provided by AVEVA P&ID Reports (refer to AVEVA P&ID Reports documentation for details).

Associated Project Configuration Options

  • Settings that control the layout and other details related to the insertion of multi-line designators are set in the Multi-Line Designator Settings section of the Miscellaneous – Settings Sub-Category of the AVEVA P&ID Project Administration program.

  • The Designator Settings section in the Miscellaneous - Settings Sub-Category is used to set general designator options.

  • Multi-line designators use the XMV Multi-line Designator and XMH Multi-Line Designator Header label types, as defined in the Label Types Configuration Category of the AVEVA P&ID Project Administration program.

Procedure

  1. Start the procedure by selecting the Add Designator option in the P&ID Reports group of the Manage tab. The Insert Multiline Designators dialog is then displayed:

  2. Select the required query from the Select Item Type drop down list. This list includes all custom P&ID Reports queries prefixed with <EXCEL_TABLE>. For example, for equipment lists, select EXCEL_TABLE_EQULIST.

If such queries are not present then actual tables will be used, for example, <EQULIST>.

  3. Enter the distance between rows in the Distance between rows field.

  4. If required, check the Place Designator Vertically checkbox.

Note: If vertical designators are defined, based on the angle of the designator, the user will have to use X or Y offset to account for the placement of the designators before refreshing.

  5. Select which designators/data from the selected table are required on the drawing by checking the appropriate checkboxes. Check the Select All checkbox to check all the designator checkboxes.

  6. If required, a fixed offset distance between the designators can be used. To apply this, check the Fix position of designators checkbox and enter the distance in the Offset field.

  7. Select OK.

  8. Place the first designator on the drawing manually. The application will then ask for the designator’s required rotation.

  9. If Fix position of designators checkbox was checked, the remaining designators will be placed automatically, otherwise continue to place designators as prompted.

  10. When all designators have been placed, select the Refresh Designators option in the P&ID Reports group of the Manage tab. The designators will then be populated with the appropriate item data as returned by the query for the selected designators.

Note: Multi-line designator component lists will be updated ONLY when user selects the Refresh Designators option and not when a drawing is opened or Synchronized.

Note: When existing designators (for example, those previously placed) are being refreshed, those designators with values that have changed since the last refresh are highlighted by being displayed in a different colour.:
