The symbols used to represent items on drawings of the KOL Electrical Designer and SLD Electrical Designer drawing type when generated in AutoCAD are selected using the Symbol List window. Facilities are also provided to map the attributes of these symbols (which are themselves AutoCAD .dwg files) to AVEVA Electrical item field names.
To open the Symbol List window, select Setup from the Project tab, then select Designer Drawing Symbols. The window is then displayed:

The window list any mappings between symbol types and .dwg drawing names already set up.
Create a New Symbol Type / Drawing Mapping
To create a new symbol type / drawing mapping:
-
Click New. The Symbol Editor window is then displayed:

-
From the Symbol Type list, select the required symbol type.

-
To select the .dwg file to be used to represent it, click Select. An Open window is then displayed.

-
Browse for and pick the required file and click Open.
-
When a mapping for an equipment type is created for the first time, a folder for the equipment type is created in the project folder. All symbol files mapped to the equipment type are copied into that folder. If a symbol file with the same name is already present in the folder, the following message is displayed:

-
Click Yes or No as required.
Mappings must be unique. If a mapping that already exists is selected, a message is displayed informing the user of this.
Multiple symbols may be mapped against the same equipment type, and the same equipment type may have multiple symbols mapped to it.
-
The Symbol Editor window then displays the select file name in the Drawing No. field and a preview of the symbol in the Preview section.

-
The window now also displays the attributes of the select drawing file in the Attribute Name column.
If there are any "obvious" mappings to AVEVA Electrical fields, i.e. where attributes have the same names as fields, these are automatically mapped. The mapped field names are displayed in the Field Name column.
-
To set up further mappings or to change existing mappings, select the required field names from the lists in the Field Name column:

Map Attributes to Field Expressions
Users may also map attributes to field expressions i.e. collections of AVEVA Electrical fields, instead of to a single field:
-
Hover the mouse cursor over the appropriate Field Expression column field and click the button that is then displayed: The Expression Editor window is then displayed:

-
Select the fields from the list provided. As soon as a field is selected, another row is displayed under the Field Name heading in which another field can be selected.

-
Enter text into rows if required.
-
Use the Up and Down button to change the order of the fields, i.e. select a field then use the button to move it up and down the list.
-
To remove a field from the list, select it and click Remove.
-
Click OK once the required fields are selected. The created expression is displayed in the Field Expression column field of the Symbol Editor window.

-
Any previous set up field name mapping is removed. To remove a field expression, define a field name mapping for the attribute instead.
Once a symbol type / drawing mapping is complete:
-
Click Apply to save the new mapping without exiting the window.
-
Click OK to save the new mapping and exit the window.
-
Alternately, click New to clear all the window of all data, or click Cancel to exit the window without saving the new tag format.
Open a Mapped Symbol Drawing in AutoCAD
To open a mapped symbol drawing in AutoCAD, select mapping row with the symbol drawing in question, and click Open.
Edit or Delete Mappings
To edit a symbol type / drawing mapping, select it from the list in the Symbol List window and click Edit. The Symbol Editor window is displayed, populated with the details of the selected mapping. Edit it using the window as described above.
Note that the drawing assigned to an symbol type cannot be edited once the mapping has been saved. To change the drawing mapping to a symbol type, delete the mapping and re-create it with a different drawing mapped.
To delete a symbol type / drawing mapping, select it from the list in the Symbol List window and click Delete. Multiple mapping rows may be selected. A message is then displayed requesting that the deletion be confirmed.

Click Yes to continue.
Import Mappings from another Project
To imported mappings from another project:
-
Click Import to display the Select an AVEVA Electrical Project window. Using this window, select the project from which the mappings are to be imported.
-
The Import Symbols window is then displayed:

The window lists all the symbol mappings in the other project.
-
Select mappings to import by checking the appropriate Select checkboxes. Use the Select All checkbox to check all Select checkboxes.
-
Once all required mappings have been selected, click Import.
-
If the selected mappings include any symbols that already exist in the current project (i.e. symbol files with the same name), the following message is displayed:

-
Click Yes if the symbols and associated mappings are to be overwritten by those being imported. Click No if these mappings are not to be imported.
-
The import then takes place and the Import Symbols window displays the results of the operation. For example:

The window lists the number of records processed in total, the number successfully imported, and the number that failed to import. The Status column gives details of these successes and failures on a mapping-by-mapping basis.
Those mappings that the user chose not to import because the associated symbols already existed in the current project are given a status of "Ignored by User", and are counted towards the number of failed imports.
