Design Internal Item Layouts

  • Last UpdatedJul 16, 2025

The Equipment Layout window provides a graphical interface used to design the internal component layouts of wiring rule items. The interface is used to add and view all the internal components such as Terminal Strips, Devices, I/O Modules, Earth Bars and Compartments for an equipment item.

It can also be used to edit and view the internal components of Compartments (Terminal Strips, Devices), although not the compartment elements themselves.

Note:
This functionality is not available for PLC Cabinets. Once such equipment has been created, terminals must be setup in the normal way using Electrical Wiring Manager facilities.
This is to enable the same PLC Cabinet tag to be used in multiple instances, whether or not the rule is the same or different, as long as the rule references a PLC Cabinet.

Right-click on the item and select Edit Detail from the menu that is then displayed:

The Equipment Layout window is then displayed:

Add components (terminal strips etc.) to the internal layout in order to provide the necessary terminals for wiring.

Refer to the Electrical Wiring Manager documentation for information on how to use the Equipment Layout window.

Note:
When accessed in this way, the equipment information displayed in the right-hand panel of the window cannot be edited.

Once the required terminals have been added, terminations can be defined for the equipment. Refer to Create and Edit Terminations for further information.
