Calculate Single ETAP Cable Size

  • Last UpdatedAug 08, 2025

If the load selected for sizing is supplied by a cable that was that was imported from ETAP (using Electrical Engineer), the layout of the Cable Sizing window is different from those for other loads:

  1. Select the installation method and enter the cable length on the Main, Protective and Neutral tabs.

  2. Click the Update button on each tab to calculate the relevant cable size and related details.

  3. If no suitable cable is found in the cable catalogue a message is displayed to inform the user of this. Either revise the cable details or add a suitable cable specification to the catalogue.

  4. If a suitable match is found in the cable catalogue, the fields are automatically completed.

  5. Click Save to save these details and exit the window.

    Note:
The maximum number of cables that may be connected to an equipment item may (optionally) be specified on the More Information window accessed from the Equipment Layout window. If the sizing procedure attempts to connect a cable to an equipment item when the maximum number of cables has already been connected to that item, a message is displayed to inform the user of this.

    Note:
In the case of parent cables (i.e. cables with child cables), when a cable sizing update will result in the number of child cables changing, the Child Cable Numbering Options window is displayed when the cable is saved:

Refer to Create a New Project Cable and Edit Project Cable Data for further information.
