AVEVA™ Electrical

Encrypt and Decrypt ETAP Interface SQL Statements

The interface between AVEVA Electrical and ETAP makes use of XSL files to process data.

While ETAP data is being processed, it is sometimes necessary to extract certain information from the database e.g. the install method used etc. This is achieved using SQL statements.

The XSL is processed external to the AVEVA Electrical software and all its code is visible to the end user. To protect the integrity of AVEVA Electrical databases against malicious SQL being executed from the XSL, a tool for encrypting SQL statements is provided in Electrical Security Manager. This can also be used by administrators and developers to customise SQL statements.

A decrypt facility is also provided, in order to give end user some control over the transformation of data from the ETAP format to the AVEVA Electrical format.

The user (an administrator) can therefore copy encrypted SQL from the XSL and paste it into Electrical Security Manager and decrypt it to view the SQL. If it needs modification, the user can then change as required, run it through the encryption function, and then paste it back into the XSL.

Access the encryption and decryption tool by selecting Tools > Encrypt / Decrypt. The Encrypter window is then displayed:

To encrypt an SQL statement, enter or paste it into the large field at the top of the window and click Encrypt. The encrypted statement is then displayed below the Encrypt and Decrypt buttons. It may be copied from there.

To decrypt an SQL statement, enter or paste it into the large field at the top of the window and click Decrypt. The decrypted statement is then displayed below the Encrypt and Decrypt buttons. It may be copied from there.
