Serial and parallel paths

  • Last UpdatedApr 22, 2022

A line consists of a combination of serial and, optionally, parallel paths.

Parallel paths refer to a set of two or more alternate material flow paths consisting of two or more pieces of equipment in the production line. Each path through the production line can have a different number of equipment in the path.

Serial paths do not have any other alternative pieces of equipment in the production line through which material can flow.

An example production line. The first two sections illustrate parallel paths, and the last illustrates a serial path.
