About shift pattern effective dates

What Shift Pattern Is In Effect

If a location has been assigned more than one shift pattern, only the shift pattern with the most recent effective date will be in effect for that location.

To enforce this condition, a location cannot be assigned more than one shift pattern with the same effective date. If the shift pattern you are adding or editing has the same effective date as a shift pattern already assigned to one of the selected locations, an error message will appear when you attempt to save the shift pattern.

When the First Shift for a New Effective Shift Pattern Starts

On the exact day a new effective shift pattern becomes active, there won’t be a new shift generated from midnight until the next defined shift. In this scenario it will continue to use the last determined shift from the previous shift pattern (if one existed). For example, if there are shifts defined for each day of the week starting at 6 AM and 6 PM, on the effective date the 6‑AM shift will be the first shift recorded. There will not be a shift recorded at midnight of the effective date from the 6‑PM shift.

Multiple Shift Patterns Example

The shift pattern Effective Date property allows you to make calendar-based shift pattern assignments to locations.

For example, say additional shifts are required annually during a location’s higher production schedule from June 1 through August 30 and the current year is 2020.

  • Initially, the Standard Production shift pattern’s effective date would be between September 1 2019 and the May 31 2020. It would be in effect until the Hight Production shift pattern’s effective date.

  • The High Production shift pattern’s effective date would be set to June 1 2020.

  • To have the Standard Production shift pattern start again on September 1 2020, sometime during the High Production period you would set the Standard Production shift pattern’s effective date to that date.

  • To have the High Production shift pattern start again on June 1 2021, sometime during the Standard Production period that started on on September 1 2020 you would set the High Production shift pattern’s effective date to June 1 2021.

You can also make unplanned shift schedule changes as needed by setting the effective date for a new or existing shift pattern to the schedule change date. Then change back to the normal shift pattern by updating its effective date to when the normal shift schedule will resume.
