The following properties are available when adding or editing an asset:

Property

Description

Name

The name for the asset.

Time Zone

By default, the asset inherits the time zone of the first asset above it in the hierarchy that has a time zone defined. If no asset above it in the hierarchy has a time zone defined, then this field will be blank.

Assigning a time zone to the asset will set the same time zone for all child assets. So, when assigning time zones, start at the highest level in the asset hierarchy.

To enter or change the time zone, in the list select the time zone of the asset's location.

To narrow the list of time zones, enter a string in the Filter field that matches the time zone name or GMT offset.

Description

Optional.

A more complete description of the asset.

Entries can include alphanumeric and special characters. While there is no length limitation to this entry, concise entries will display better on Insight pages.

Geolocations

Optional.

Specify the following:

  • Latitude in decimal degrees with plus/minus format (where "+" is optional). The value range is ±90.

  • Longitude in decimal degrees with plus/minus format (where "+" is optional). The value range is ±180.

  • Elevation (optional) noted in meters above sea level, specified to the first decimal place (for example:10.0 or 1322.5). If an elevation is entered, latitude and longitude are required.

Note: For latitude and longitude, don't use degree, minute, second (DMS), or decimal degrees with N/E/S/W. Geolocation values may include decimal separators.

Namespace

Required for equipment assets that track downtime and are included in the equipment efficiency model. This is optional for other asset types.

A namespace is used to provide a logical grouping of assets. For example, it could correspond to a physical site, such as Houston Plant, or to an area at a physical site, such as Houston Plant Bottling.

Namespaces will also be used in future features that support publishing asset data through AVEVA Historian Publisher. To implement this functionality, the namespace of an asset will need to match the Historian Publisher Data Source name.

Entries can be up to 80 characters long. They can include alphanumeric characters, but not any of the following special characters: ( ) / \ # ? + = < > & : * % ” ’ ` ^ _ … ~ . ' "

Note: Equipment assets are typically added to Insight by importing them into the equipment efficiency model. Once added, an equipment asset's namespace cannot be changed. (Non‑equipment asset namespaces can be changed at any time.)

Path

Specifies a path for the asset. Use this field to assign this asset under another asset in the Insight solution.
