Use an OPC server as a data source

Using AVEVA Insight Publisher and the OI Gateway, you can create an AVEVA Insight data source from an OPC server.
The AVEVA Insight Publisher runtime (aahIDAS) natively supports SuiteLink, a proprietary Wonderware protocol. The OI Gateway (or FactorySuite Gateway) acts as a translator among several protocols, including:
-
MX (AppServer native)
-
OPC DA (industry standard)
-
SuiteLink
While all of these protocols function similarly, they each use slightly different labels and organizational structures. OI Gateway translates them all so the tag information from these various sources can be pass on, via Publisher, to AVEVA Insight.
Note: While these instructions focus on configuration for OI Gateway with an OPC server,
they can be used to configure a data source using any of the protocols supported by
the gateway.
See the online help for the System Management Console (sometimes labeled "System Platform
Management Console") for examples and more information. You'll find it in the Start
menu under Wonderware Utilities or Wonderware, depending on the version.
Steps to creating a data source
Creating an AVEVA Insight data source from an OPC server involves four steps:
|
|
1. Configure the gateway. |
This step includes using the System Management Console to configure the OI Gateway for use by the OPC server. |
|
2. Create a tag list. |
This step includes defining a list of tags to send to AVEVA Insight. |
|
|
3. Prepare to publish your data. |
This step includes:
|
|
|
4. Publish your tags to AVEVA Insight. |
This step includes registering the OPC server data source and publishing your data from the OPC server to AVEVA Insight. |
