What is an asset type?

With asset types, a solution administrator can define a set of properties and items that can be synchronized and updated on any assets linked to the asset type. You can create new assets from an asset type, or link existing assets to an asset type. Once an asset is associated with an asset type, it becomes an "instance" of the asset type.

An Asset Type Definition includes Properties. These are definitions for common tags included with each asset using the asset type. A property definition contains a Name, Description, Data Type, and Dimension.
Defined properties are mapped to tags under each associated asset.

As you create AVEVA Insight entities, such as content or alerts, using tags mapped to the asset type properties, you have the option of saving that entity either directly to the asset or back to the asset type. When an entity is saved to an asset type, it becomes an Associated Item of the asset type. Any edits to the Source Items saved under a given asset are synchronized back to the asset type.

An asset type entity synchronized to an asset becomes "instantiated," whereas the original entity is the "source."

Supported entity types include:
-
Content
-
Dashboards
-
Alerts
-
Guided Analytics models (Process Anomaly Detection and Asset Anomaly Detection)
