Location naming guidelines

You can use any alphanumeric character string in a location name. You can also use special characters.

Two special characters, forward slashes and blanks/spaces, have some rules associated with their use.

Note: This location label must exactly match the "location" tag extended property in your database. See TagExtendedProperties for more information.

Forward slash and blank/space characters in location names

Location names can include blank and forward slash characters if you follow these rules:

  • Spaces are allowed in location names, as long as the space does not occur at the end of a name. For example:

    SnacksBox/Los Angeles/Shipping

Warning: Spaces at the end of a name, as shown in the following example, will result in error:

    SnacksBox/Los Angeles /Shipping

  • A blank character as the entire location name " " applied to a tag or other content means that it can be seen only by users and administrators that have no location associated with their AVEVA Insight account.

  • A forward slash can be used as a separator character. For example:

    Snacksbox/Miami

    Snacksbox/Miami/Shipping

  • A location name cannot start with a forward slash character.
