Tag naming conventions

AVEVA Insight supports tags which adhere to the naming conventions specified here.

A tag name is a Unicode string (UTF-16) of up 256 characters. The first character of a tag name can be alphabetic, numeric, a dollar sign ($), or a pound sign (#). Subsequent characters can be alphabetic, numeric, a dollar sign ($), a pound sign (#), an underscore (_), or a percent sign (%). For a complete list of supported and unsupported characters, see the following:

Supported in tag names

  • Letters

    • Any letter character as defined by the Unicode Standard

      • Latin characters from a through z

      • Latin characters from A through Z

    • Unique letter characters used in supported non-English languages, such as ñ or ü.

  • Digits

    • Any numerical character

  • Special characters

    • AVEVA Insight supports dollar sign ($), pound sign (#), underscore (_), and percent sign (%).

Not supported in tag names

  • ASCII table code characters 0 through 32.

  • All of the following special characters:

    • + - * / \ = ( ) ` ~ ! ^ & @ [ ] { } | : ; ’ , < > ? " space
