Objective.Function

An objective function, also referred to as a cost function or optimization function, defines the quantity you aim to either minimize or maximize in an optimization problem. It represents the primary goal or objective of the optimization process.

The objective function typically relies on one or more variables, which serve as the parameters you can adjust to achieve the optimization goal. The specific goal might involve maximizing profit, minimizing cost, reducing error, enhancing efficiency, or achieving any other desired outcome.

To achieve the objective function, one approach is through convergence deviation analysis. This involves examining how closely an algorithm approaches the optimal solution over multiple iterations and whether it significantly deviates from the expected convergence behavior.

Model Convergence Deviation = Sum of Absolute (Corrected or Compensated or Raw mass value – reconciled mass value)/ (Corrected or Compensated or Raw mass value *Number of streams)*100

In the Debug menu, you can calculate Model Convergence Deviation for the overall model, sub-model, and individual streams.

Calculate the objective function of the model

  1. Select the DeBug menu.

  2. On the DeBug menu, int the DeBug group, select Objective.Function.

By default, the objective function is calculated for the entire model, including redundant streams. The Filter applies to the selection of models and sub-models.

  3. If the main Model is selected and the Check button is clicked, a list of objective functions for the sub-models will be calculated and displayed.

  4. If any Sub-model is selected and the Check button is clicked, a list of objective functions for the streams under that sub-model will be calculated and displayed.

Note: By default, for all cases the objective function is calculated for the Redundant streams. If other streams need to be included in the calculation, they must be selected from the Stream Type options.

Include additional streams in the calculation

  1. Enable the Stream Type by checking the corresponding checkbox.

  2. Click Check to recalculate the objective function based on the selection.

  3. You can Copy, Save as CSV File, PrInt or Paste the resulting data from the selected page.
