Process objects

Process objects serve to allow streams to come together or split. A process object may represent a reactor, a distillation column, or a process unit. It is possible to attach an image to a process object so that the flowsheet will reflect the nature of the real world refinery process represented.

A process object has both input and output streams; therefore a balance envelope exists around them.

The following process describes how to add a process object to the flowsheet:

  1. Select the Process tool from the Drawing Toolbar.

  2. Click the left mouse button and hold it down on the canvas area of the Drawing Window, at the point where you want one corner of the object to appear. Drag until the shape has the desired size and orientation, then release the mouse button.

Process objects and balance equations

Use the process tool to create a Process object representing any standard continuous process that does not have an inventory volume retained within the equipment. A process object represents any generic process that generates balance equations (mass and/or volume) for the DR Solver. The amount of material that enters a process, when expressed in units of mass, must equal the amount that comes out.

Each Process object generates balance equations based on the balance type you select. For a mass or volume balance, this is a simple equation of the form:
