AVEVA™ Production Accounting

Flow compensation

General principle

If the operating condition is different from the design condition for any given flow measurement, volume correction (or compensation) calculation is needed to correct for this difference.

Flow measurement instruments in plants are typically configured to produce measurements that are corrected to standard conditions (for example, 1 atmosphere pressure and 15 °C in most metric countries). To do this, the instrumentation must be programmed to assume a certain operating temperature and material density at that point in the process. If these design-time assumptions differ to any substantial degree from the pressure and temperature conditions in effect when the flow measurement was captured, then the flow amount is reported incorrectly.

Fortunately, by knowing the design assumptions as well as the actual operating temperature and pressure (from measurements), AVEVA Production Accounting can reverse the inaccurate volume correction and recalculate a more accurate corrected volume.
