You can establish connections manually between two nodes (such as processes, models, shipments, and tanks) using the Create.Stream option. By specifying the stream type, source, destination, and stream name, users can link nodes even if they are significantly distant from each other.
The following procedure describes how to create stream between two nodes:
-
Navigate to the Edit menu and then click Create Stream. The Create Stream dialog box appears.

-
In the Stream Details section, specify the following:
-
Stream Type: Select the stream type from the drop-down list. This field determines the type of link that will be drawn when connecting models. It is a mandatory field.
Valid values include:
-
Stream (PolyLine)
-
Stream (HV)
-
Stream (HVH)
-
Stream (HVHV)
-
Stream (HVHVH)
-
Stream (VH)
-
Stream (VHV)
-
Stream (VHVH)
-
Stream (VHVHV)
-
-
Source:Select the source start location from the drop-down list. The source field will be populated with processes, models, shipments, nodes, and tanks from the current flowsheet (Model). It is a mandatory field.
-
Destination: Select the destination location from the drop-down list. The destination field will also be populated with processes, models, shipments, nodes, and tanks from the current flowsheet (Model). It is a mandatory field.
-
Stream Name: Specify the name for the stream name. When the user selects or types valid source and destination nodes, the stream name is automatically generated in the following format: <Source>/<Destination>
You can override the generated stream name with a custom stream name.
-
-
Click Connect. The connection between selected nodes will be successfully established.
Points to remember
-
Incomplete fields:
-
If the user attempts to establish a connection by clicking the “Connect” button without entering any of the required fields, an appropriate message will be displayed.
-
-
Source and destination constraints:
-
The user cannot specify the same source and destination nodes for the connection.
-
-
Existing stream name handling:
-
If the user selects a source and destination for which an existing stream already exists, they must provide a different name for the new stream.
-
If the user mistakenly provides the same name as an existing stream, they will be prompted to automatically generate a unique stream name.
-
If the user confirms, the stream will be automatically renamed, and the connection will be established.
-
Otherwise, they will be asked to provide a unique stream name.
