On the Edit Tag Information dialog, you can edit tag definitions.

Open the Edit Tag Information dialog

  • From the Tools menu, select Tag.Info.

Use the Search button to search for a particular object in the specified column. The object is highlighted in the list.

You can copy, paste, save and print the entire grid using the File menu.

Check tags

When the Tag is defined, click the Tag Check from DB button to easily check the status of the tag with the interface. If there are problems connecting to the Interface or finding the tag in the target system, the color of the Status column turns red. If there is no problem, it turns green.

When you exit this dialog box, click the OK button and then all edited tags are saved in the database. If you click the Cancel button or the Close box at the top left of the dialog you will exit without saving the data.

If you add each tag using this dialog box, or need to make multiple edits, it takes a long time and also is very tedious. A more efficient way to add tags is to get all the information for related tags from your process historian into an Excel spreadsheet and then copy the data and paste them into the dialog’s grid. If there is a new tag, the system automatically adds it. If it already exists, the system updates the information of this tag.

Example

For example, assume you have the data shown below in an Excel spreadsheet and you paste it into the Edit Tag Info grid. ME1 and ME2 are found to already exist while ME10 and ME11 are recognized as new ones.

Copy the cells in Excel spreadsheet

You can see that the new tags are added and the existing tags are updated.

128.CheckingTags2

You normally register (define in this tag list) all tags before the tags are used by objects such as stream and tank objects. When you open this Edit Tag Information dialog box, it is easy to see whether the tag is used or not by its color. Green color means the tag is used by some object.
