Volume balance

A volume balance is similar to a mass balance and is defined around similar collections of configuration objects. However, when the measurements from the plant are in terms of corrected volume, or can easily be corrected from gross volume, it makes sense to balance the volumes rather than mass.

In order to balance volumes, they must be corrected to standard conditions of temperature and pressure, because otherwise volume varies widely.

Corrected volume is volume corrected to a standard condition of pressure and temperature. It is often called net volume. Some authorities use the term "gross standard volume" (GSV) for such corrected volumes at standard conditions.

If your plant’s instrumentation provides corrected volumes based on predefined design temperatures and pressures for your process unit, AVEVA Production Accounting is capable of recalculating the corrected volume based on actual, measured temperatures and pressures.
