About stream objects

  • Last UpdatedFeb 28, 2025

Use the stream tools to create a stream object representing a connection between other objects. A stream object forms a permanent connection between any two processes, node, tank or receipt/shipment objects. Sometimes, a stream object has a material flow, and at other times it may not.

While balance objects may each have multiple streams feeding into them or coming out of them, each individual stream can only be the outflow of one object and may only flow into (feed) one other object. Each stream has a specific direction of flow.

Conceptually, within the model, there is only type of stream - the physical layout of the stream is not significant.

Stream tools

The Drawing Toolbar offers you several stream tools for drawing a stream because you may need streams to look different on the flowsheet, particularly with respect to how many bends are in the line representing the stream. You require the ability to choose streams that will look different and connect appropriately, as summarized in the table below.

Polylines

Polylines are initially drawn as a single line segment with a handle in the middle. You may drag the handle, thereby creating a corner, or vertex, in the line. When you do this, two new handles appear in the midpoints of the resulting segments.
