Create Hull View

Creates a symbolic cross-section view of the 3D model that details hull structure and outfitting elements from a specified location.

The hull view functionality requires a marine project. Functionality is disabled if the project is not a marine project.

A hull view is always defined on a plane. This plane can be derived from a planar hull element, a ship grid position or a coordinate value. The hull view functionality can be invoked using the Fluent UI or the Model Explorer. Alternatively, you can input the command VIEWHS.

  • An X plane view is a transverse section, typically on a frame. For example, input FR172 to create the view plane using Frame 172.

  • A Y plane view is a longitudinal elevation. For example, input LP0 to create an elevation on the centreline.

  • A Z plane view is a plan view, For example, input Z=5000 to create a plan view at 5 meters above base.

  • The name of a panel or reference surface object can be input to define the view plane.

  • A reference surface object, panel or panel component can be selected in an existing view to define the hull view. The view direction is defined by the location of the selected element.

Hull views require a Marine project environment and the view configuration is controlled by settings in the Marine project. These settings are the same as in AVEVA Marine 12.1. Refer to AVEVA Marine 12.1 User Guide for further information.

Most of the standard DRAW functionality is applicable for a hull view, some functionality is disabled. The disabled functions include:

  • Auto scale

  • The location, direction and limits of the hull view can only be modified using hull view properties. Standard DRAW functionality cannot be used to modify the hull view properties. For example, Format 3D, Format 2D and Drawlist Manager.

  • Section planes cannot be created for hull views.

  • The automatic contents of the hull view can only be modified using hull view properties. Drawlist Manager and Format 3D functionality can be used to control additional model elements that are displayed with the hull view.

Manipulation of the contents (both hull and outfitting) is primarily done via the hull view properties. It is also possible to add outfitting and hull model elements to the view. Model elements added in this way are drawn according to draw representation rules, not with symbolic representation.

A hull view has the same properties, with a few exceptions, as an ordinary view plus some additional hull view specific properties. The Properties window displays all applicable hull view properties.

A hull view can be updated using the same Update Design command as ordinary views. If Automatic Update Design is switched on, any change to hull view properties triggers an update.

The contents of a hull view is controlled by the Drawlist, as for any other view. The first entry in the Hull View drawlist is an ADDE which represents the automatic contents of the hull view, defined by the view properties. The ADDE entry must not be edited or removed. If this happens for any reason, the ADDE is reset when the hull view is recreated/updated.

Line types for hull views are controlled by settings in the Marine project. Refer to E3D2.1 Migration Guide further information on how these Line Types are mapped to Draw Line Styles.

The following types of hull view can be created.

  • Create Hull View with Specified Corners

  • Create Hull View with Specified Centre Point

  • Create Hull View from Existing View with Specified Corners

  • Create Hull View from Existing View with Specified Centre Point
