Non-Standard Branch Connections

The Non-standard connections functionality uses non-standard connections in the PIPING discipline. A non-standard connection is essentially a branch connection at any point on the surface of the main branch. Normally these are tube connections which are inserted by drilling a hole at some point and welding the new branch into place.

With non-standard branch connections you can create and connect new branches or connect existing branches to components such as valves, reducers and elbows. The branch connects to a cartesian point (PIPCA) owned by the component or an element called a Pipe Tapping (PTAP) for tube to tube connections.

Unlike other TEE or OLET type connections a special branch connection does not require additional components in the piping specification but it does require the AVEVA specification /General-Tappings which is contained in the DB MASTER/PIPECATA in the AVEVA MAS project.

Create a connection point and then if required position and orientate it:

• Connect Existing Branch

• Create New Branch

If the non-standard branch connection is greyed out in the Tools group, refer to the system administrator.
