Extend Section

Lengthens or shortens straight sections using either:

• a plane created from a maximum of three identified points

• a panel intersection

• a section extension value

• an overall section length value

• a local coordinate system intersection

• an offset value

Functionality is also available to extend or trim the connected end of a GENSEC. Refer to Non-Routed Item for further information.

The extended section endpoints can be cut to align with the plane or extended without cutting.

1. You are prompted to Select section end(s) to extend or

2. Click to identify a section end to extend.

3. You are then prompted to Select section end(s) to extend or <Next>.

4. The prompt is repeated, allowing you to identify multiple section ends to extend.

5. Input N at the prompt and press Enter to specify the extension plane.

6. You are then prompted to Select first plane point or <Panel>.

7. Input values in the dimension fields and press Enter or click to identify the first point of the plane.

8. You are then prompted to Select second plane point or <Finish>.

9. Input values in the dimension fields and press Enter or click to identify the second point of the plane.

10. You are then prompted to Select third plane point or <Finish>.

11. Input a dimensional value in the field and press Enter or click to identify the third point of the plane.

12. The section ends are extended to the intersection with the plane.

13. Throughout the extend process you can press ESC to cancel the command. Additional functionality is also available.

    Perpendicular to section	Press the down arrow key and select Perpendicular to section to extend a section end to align with the plane without cutting the endpoint.
    Normal to plane	Press the down arrow key and select Normal to plane to cut the endpoint of the extended section to align with the plane.
    Next	Press the down arrow key and select Next to proceed to the next extend process.
    Panel	Press the down arrow key and select Panel to extend a section end to a panel intersection. You are prompted to Select Panel to extend to or Click to identify an intersecting panel to define the extension point.
    Extend by value	Press the down arrow key and select Extend by value to extend a section end using an extension value, measured from the current position of the section end. You are prompted to Specify extension or Input a dimensional value in the field an press Enter to define the section extension value.
    Overall length	Press the down arrow key and select Overall length to extend a section end using an overall section length value. You are prompted to Specify overall length or Input a dimensional value in the field an press Enter to define the section length value.
    Lcs	Press the down arrow key and select Lcs to extend a section end to align with the origin of the local coordinate system.
    Offset	Press the down arrow key and select Offset to create a plane that is offset from the picked points. You are prompted to Specify offset Input a dimensional value in the field an press Enter to define the offset value.
    Finish	Press the down arrow key and select Finish to end the command.
