Data Consistency

  • Last UpdatedMar 09, 2026
  • 5 minute read

Performs customized checks on the design model to make sure that it complies with specific company or project requirements.

The checks made include confirmation that:

  • Adjacent items are connected and no gaps exist

  • Connection types are compatible

  • Connected components are not skewed with respect to one another

  • Pipe bores or hanger rod diameters are consistent

  • Branch and equipment connections are properly terminated

  • Hangers are correctly connected to Fittings and Attachment points (ATTAs)

  • Tubes or rods joining components are not less than minimum acceptable lengths

  • Angles of pulled Bends and Elbows fall within the limits set in the Specifications

  • Structural Sections and Joints are correctly positioned with respect to each other and are properly connected

  • Lengths of structural Sections fall within predefined ranges.

  1. To specify the level in the database at which the consistency check is to be carried out, select an item in the scrollable Check list. The default selection is the Current Element (CE).

  2. You can control the data checking parameters independently for piping, hvac and structural elements. To view the current checking parameters, select Piping, HVAC or Structural.

    Note:
The HVAC option replaces the Piping option when you are working within the HVAC application.

  3. To specify where the results of the data consistency check are to be sent to, click to select Screen or File as appropriate.

If Screen is selected, the results are displayed in the message area in the lower part of the window, which is the default.

  4. If File is selected, type the file identifier in the Directory and Filename text boxes.

The default directory is Local; that is, the directory from which you have entered the software. To specify how any existing file of the same name is to be updated select one of the following from the drop-down menu:

    • New File

    • Overwrite

    • Append

  5. Click Check to run the data consistency check or Cancel to discard any changes and exits the window.

Piping

You can view the current data checking parameters for piping by selecting Piping on the Data Consistency Check window to display the Piping Consistency Check Options window with the current settings shown.

The Tolerances allowed between adjacent piping components can be specified by these settings:

Angle

The displacement Angle between their p-arrive and p-leave axes.

Offset

The Offset distance between their p-arrive and p-leave axes.

Ratio

The Ratio of the offset to the projected distance between the p-arrive and p-leave axes (equivalent to the tangent of the Angle parameter).

Max Angle

Maximum angle for pulled bends and elbows.

Check attachment points

The Check attachment points check box switches attachment point (ATTA) check On and Off. ATTA check can be switched off if you have ATTAs which are not predefined in the model.

Check flange alignment geometry

Controls the checking of zdir on flanged components.

Click Tube Range to display the Tube Tolerance Check Options window on which you can set the minimum length of tube for a given diameter.

Click OK to confirm the changes, click Reset to reset the window back to original settings or click Cancel to cancel the window and return to the Piping Consistency Check Options window.

On the Piping Consistency Check Options window click OK to confirm the changes, Default to reset to default settings, click Reset to reset to original settings when the window was first opened or Cancel to discard any changes and exit the window.

HVAC

You can view the current data checking parameters for hvac by selecting HVAC on the Data Consistency Check window to display the HVAC Consistency Check Options window with the current settings shown.

The Tolerances allowed between adjacent HVAC components can be specified by these settings:

Click Tube Range to display the Tube Tolerance Check Options window on which you can set the minimum length of tube for a given diameter.

Click OK to confirm the changes, click Reset to reset the window back to original settings or click Cancel to cancel the window and return to the HVAC Consistency Check Options window.

On the HVAC Consistency Check Options window click OK to confirm the changes, Default to reset to default settings, click Reset to reset to original settings when the window was first opened or Cancel to discard any changes and exit the window.

Structural

You can view the current data checking parameters for structural by selecting Structural on the Data Consistency Check window to display the Structural Consistency Check Options window with the current settings shown.

The Structural Consistency Check Options window displays the following tolerances that can be set:

  • The misalignment allowed between connected structural components can be specified by any of three related settings:

    • Eccentricity Section Distance

    • Eccentricity Section Angle

    • Eccentricity Section Ratio (the tangent of the Angle)

Distance and angular offsets are measured from the line between Nodes, while additional checks are made using the attached Neutral points of the Section and the corresponding Node.

Positional errors for Joints and Fittings are measured as divergencies of the Joint or Fitting positions from their owning Nodes. The tolerances are specified separately for a Eccentricity Pjoint (Primary Joint), Eccentricity Sjoint (Secondary Joint) and Eccentricity Fitting.

Click OK to confirm the changes, click Default to reset to default settings, click Reset to reset to original settings when the window was first opened or click Cancel to discard any changes and exit the window.
