Once a component is selected in the MODEL, a SPREF is identified and points to a SPCOM in the specification, which in turn points to a catalogue component. However parts can be used in the catalogue to fully describe the components without the need for defining a specification.

Create Part World
Use the Create Part World window to create a Part World (PRTWLD) element which is a top level administrative element in the hierarchy.

Depending on the discipline currently selected in AVEVA Catalogue a default purpose selection is made, for example PIPE is selected by default when in the AVEVA Catalogue Pipework discipline.
Select the Use defined Storage Area checkbox to add elements to a defined storage area, refer to Storage Areas for further information.
Create Part Hierarchy
A Part Hierarchy (PRTELE) element is an administrative element which represents a General Part (GPART) family corresponding to a specific GTYPE element.

Use the Create Part Hierarchy window to create a PRTELE administrative element in the hierarchy. A PRTELE element must be created below a PRTWLD element.

Depending on the discipline currently selected in AVEVA Catalogue a default purpose selection is made, for example PIPE is selected by default when in the AVEVA Catalogue Pipework discipline.
Select the Use defined Storage Area checkbox to add elements to a defined storage area, refer to Storage Areas for further information.
Create Part Family
A Part Element (PRTELE) element is an administrative element which contain a number of GPART elements, each of which fully defines an individual component.

Use the Create Part Family window to create a Part Family (PRTELE) element must be created below a Part World (PRTWLD).

Depending on the discipline currently selected in AVEVA Catalogue a default purpose selection is made, for example PIPE is selected by default when in the AVEVA Catalogue Pipework discipline.
Select the Use defined Storage Area checkbox to add elements to a defined storage area, refer to Storage Areas for further information.
The Part Family window allows access to various tasks which administer all aspects of a new Part Family.

Create and Delete Parts
Create a New Part
A new General Part (GPART) element with general attributes is created in the database hierarchy displayed in the Catalogue Explorer below the Part World and a new part entry is displayed in the Part Family window. By default, the Type, Subtype and Description general attributes are unset.

General Attributes
Use the Tasks > General Attributes pane of the Parts Family window to add the general attributes of the GPART element.

The name, type, subtype, description and comment attributes are required. TYPE is a primary type such as XXX and the Subtype is XXX.
For the GPART not to be referenced in the MODEL, deselect the Allow References from Model check box (by default this is selected).
If the check box is not selected, when Navigate to 3D Model is selected, the currently selected GPART in the Part Family window is not identified in the database hierarchy displayed in the Catalogue Explorer, an Error message is displayed.
Use the Attributes of GPART to fully define the component part in one place without the need for a specification.

Use the standard Track CE check box to allow the window to follow the currently selected element in the Catalogue Explorer.
References
Use the Tasks > References pane of the Parts Family window to add the reference attributes of the GPART element. These reference attributes fully define the GPART and point to the 3D model and ISODRAFT and so on.
The 3D Model reference or catalogue reference (Catref) points to a catalogue component, this is the only reference attribute that is obligatory.

The 3D Template reference (Tmpref) attribute references the design template.

The 2D reference (Drssref) attribute references the draft symbol set reference which defines symbols for components to be used on drawings, refer to Symbol Set for further information.

The ISO Description (Detref) reference attribute points to the Detailing Text (SDTE) elements which contain descriptive text relating to a component, which is used during the construction of drawings, reports, take-off sheets and so on.

The ISO Material (Matxt) reference attribute points to the Material Text (SMTE) elements contain descriptive text describing the material(s) from which the physical component is constructed, and is used during the construction of drawings, reports, take-off sheets and so on.

The Bolts (Bltref) reference attribute points to a BLTAB element in the Catalogue DB. This contains details of the bolts needed to connect the corresponding component into a pipeline. This heading is, of course, applicable only to components which require bolts for example: flanges and so on.

Note: BLTREF, in particular have no meaning for a structural component.
The Weights (Cmpref) reference attribute points to a CMPT element in the Properties DB.

The Surface Treatment (Srftref) reference attribute points to a Surface Treatment element (SRFTRT).

The Pipe Data Table (Pdaref) reference attributes to a Pipe Data Table Element (PDATAB).

Creating Parts from a Category
Use Create Parts from Category functionality to create parts from a previously created Category. Adds elements below the category to the Part Family list from the currently selected category element, attributes can then be modified.
Sections and Categories are administrative elements which segregate particular types of catalogue data in to logical parts of the hierarchy. Sections, which subdivide an overall CATA, are obligatory; Categories, which subdivide sections are optional (although their use is recommended).
If the currently selected element is not a category element, a search window is displayed. This facility is provided as an extended search in Catalogue, pre-populated with search criteria for a category element.

The search functionality available is common all element types in the catalogue, refer to Search for further information.
Create Parts from Template Area
As with categories, it is possible to create parts from a previously created Template Area (TMAR). The process is identical to that previously described for a category.
Modify Reference Attributes
Use the modify reference attributes functionality to edit the attribute.
Create Copies of Selected Parts
Use the Create Copies of Selected Parts functionality to copy the currently selected GPART from the Part Family window and display in the database hierarchy in the Catalogue Explorer.
Delete Selected Parts
Use the Delete Selected Parts functionality to delete the currently selected GPART from the Part Family window from the database hierarchy in the Catalogue Explorer.
Navigate to 3D Model
Use the Navigate to 3D Model functionality to identify the currently selected GPART from the Part Family window in the database hierarchy displayed in the Catalogue Explorer.
Navigate to Selected Part
Use the Navigate to Selected Parts functionality to identify the currently selected GPART from the Part Family window in the database hierarchy in the Catalogue Explorer.
Modify 3D Model
Use the Modify 3D Model functionality to display the Category Creation window, refer to Units for further information.
