Measure Distance

Measures the distance between two points without having to calculate it.

You are prompted to select two points in the 3D Window. When the points have been selected the Measure window displays the following information:

  • The straight line distance between the two selected points.

  • The offset distance between the selected points.

  • The direction of the line between the selected points, with the coordinates given with respect to the given element.

    Note:
    Select the positioning options required before picking each point using Positioning Control.

The display units of the dimension can be controlled independently of the current working distance units. The three options for Unit Type are:

Default

Use the current selected units format.

Metric

Display metric unit options in the Display Unit field.

Imperial

Display imperial unit options in the Display Unit field.

The units to be used to display the dimensions are selected using the Display Unit option.

The Keep Dimensions function allows previous dimension graphics to be retained in the 3D window. If the Keep Dimensions check box is unchecked then existing Measure Distance graphics are removed from the 3D view and are automatically removed after each new dimension is added.

The Show linear dimension option enables or disables display of the dimension line that goes directly between the two selected points, leaving only the orthogonal dimension lines displayed.

The Perpendicular To function allows you to draw a dimension from a graphically selected point perpendicular to a selected line or plane in the 3D model.

When a measure is wrt world (/*):

  • ENU coordinates

The direction and offset fields labelled as ENU (for example: Offset E)

  • XYZ coordinates

The direction and offset fields labelled as XYZ

When measure in not wrt world:

  • ENU coordinates

The direction and offset fields labelled as UVW and direction as ENU

  • XYZ coordinates

The offset fields labelled as UVW and direction as XYZ
