For liquid net volume in tanks

  • Last UpdatedFeb 28, 2025
  • 1 minute read

Tank net volumes are normally used in material balance since all the other measurements to which the tank volume will be compared are corrected to standard conditions.

Symbols commonly used in the liquid volume compensation equations

Symbol

Name

Description

GV

Gross Volume

Measured volume at the tank’s actual operating temperature

NV

Net Volume

Liquid volume corrected to standard conditions

TT

Tank Temperature

Observed temperature (measured)

TD

Tank Density

Observed density (typically from lab)

Net Volume

VCF (Density, T) is the volume correction factor as already described above for liquid meters in topic For liquid flow meters.

Note that for tanks, the following is true:

…where NV is at base temperature and GV is at tank temperature (=T).
