2023 Releases

The AVEVA Insight release notes are arranged in order from the most recent release, and they correspond to the month and year the enhancements and known and fixed issues (where applicable) were made available in the product.

Note: The Fixed Issues included in the Release Notes are a list of the highest-priority defects reported by our customers and are not an exhaustive list of all fixes included in the release.

December 2023

The following release information is provided for this release of AVEVA Insight.

Enhancements

The following new and enhanced functionality is delivered as part of this release.

• Menu navigation: The navigation rail has been simplified to make it easier to get around. For example, to quickly create visuals and dashboards, select Create from the navigation rail. For more information, see Get started with AVEVA Insight.

• Recent users: The Recent Users list allows administrators to easily review usage. Administrators can search and sort to find specific users. For more information, see View recent users list.

Fixed Issues

The following is a list of fixed issues included in this release.

• Case – 960308355 (Defect – 2634028) Fixed an issue where expressions using the Unit of Measure function didn't accept some units of measures.

• Case – 960355408 (Defect – 2634028) Fixed an issue where news about your data didn't load.

• Case – 960334744 (Defect – 2634028) Fixed an issue where expressions using the TOTAL time-series function didn't retain some units of measurement.

• Case – 960357018 (Defect – 2634028) Fixed an issue where active production runs showed incorrect data.

• Case – 960361175 (Defect – 2634028) Fixed an issue where users assigned the User role couldn't edit or create content.

November 2023

Enhancements

The following new and enhanced functionality is delivered as part of this release.

• Kiosk mode: Set up a device to display key information for an extended period of time. Kiosk mode is especially useful on devices without a keyboard, such as an overhead digital billboard on your plant floor. For more information, see Set up and use kiosk mode in AVEVA Insight.

• Asset Tree: For a streamlined and intuitive browsing experience, you can now view assets in a hierarchical structure. For more information, see View asset tree.

Fixed Issues

The following is a list of fixed issues included in this release.

• Case – 960347799 (Defect – 2634028) Fixed an issue where graphics didn't load for all users.

• Case – 960347815 (Defect – 2634028) Fixed an issue where a cursor couldn't be removed when added to the maximum point of a line chart.

October 2023

The following release information is provided for this release of AVEVA Insight.

Enhancements

The following new and enhanced functionality is delivered as part of this release.

• Classic experience deprecation: We are removing the Classic Look user interface from AVEVA Insight. Users will no longer be able to switch from New Look back to Classic Look.

• User profile enhancement: Your user profile now includes a "copy to clipboard" feature, streamlining the process of sharing information. To learn more, see View your user profile details.

• Extended time ranges for Equipment Efficiency: You can now retrieve 35 days of information from AVEVA Insight when configuring custom time ranges. To learn more, see Define a time range.

• Access equipment asset pages from Equipment Efficiency dashboard: You can now select the Equipment Name on the Equipment Efficiency dashboard to link directly to the associated asset page. To learn more, see Tour the Equipment Efficiency page.

The following is a list of fixed issues included in this release.

• Case – 960339112 (Defect – 2830257) Fixed an issue where expressions using the COUNT time-series function weren't returning the correct value.

• Case – 960334744 (Defect – 2634028) Fixed an issue where expressions using the TOTAL time-series function didn't retain some units of measurement.

• Case – 960334311 (Defect – 2634028) Fixed an issue where expressions using the TOTAL time-series function didn't calculate partial months correctly.

• Case – 960340410 (Defect – 2853906) Fixed an issue where content didn't save properly when it was saved to an asset type.

September 2023 – Release 2

The following release information is provided for this release of AVEVA Insight.

Enhancements

The following new and enhanced functionality is delivered as part of this release.

• Publisher role: You can assign the new Publisher role to non-administrator users. This role allows users to create new data sources and publish data to AVEVA Insight using AVEVA Insight Publisher. For more information, see About AVEVA Insight user roles.

• New way to create content: Create content directly from Tags list. Simply select the data tags you want and select the Create New Content icon. For more information, see Create a visual.

Fixed Issues

The following is a list of fixed issues included in this release.

• Case – 960308355 (Defect – 2504793): Fixed an issue where expressions using the unit of measure conversion (UOM) function didn't accept some units of measurement.

• Case – 960328209 (Defect – 2504793): Fixed an issue where expressions with an IF statement didn't accept some units of measurement.

• DMZ Secure Link update: Documentation for the updated DMZ Secure Link application has moved. For more information, see DMZ Secure Link Help.

• Event and alarm overlays on line charts: AVEVA Insight supports event and alarm overlays for line charts. For more information, see View events and alarms on a line chart.

• Audit log enhancements: The CONNECT audit log includes details about when assets, alerts, equipment, models, and data sources are created, edited, or deleted. For more information, see Audit logs.

Known Issues

The following is a list of known issues as of the release.

• (Defect – 2596530) Description: An icon on the Guided Analytics news card is missing. Workaround: This has no impact on the data or performance.

Fixed Issues

The following is a list of fixed issues included in this release.

• Case – N/A (Defect – 2387032): Fixed an issue where a limited number of Help topics didn't correctly display notes and paragraphs.

• Case – 960309061 (Defect – 2528824): Fixed an issue where User Management settings weren't available from the Insight Administration page. Administrators can access a list of recent Insight users from https://insight.connect.aveva.com/usermanagement/lastactive.

• Case – N/A (Defect – 2523502, 2569836): Fixed an issue where edits to alert configurations where not always saved and deleted correctly.

• Case – 960256814 (Defect – 2554771): Fixed an issue where the values from Insight time series data and MES Performance data were not consistent.

• Case – N/A (Defect – 2536588): Fixed an issue to improve tag creation when data is uploaded from a CSV or JSON file.

• Case – N/A (Defect – 2566106): Fixed an issue with the handling of 'unknown' units for expressions, resulting in improved reliability.

• Case – N/A (Defect – 2480751): Fixed an issue where times returned by aggregate expressions did not align well with the specified interval.

• Case – N/A (Defect – 2480751): Fixed an issue with the reliability of Total results in Column Chart and expressions.

June 2023

The following release information is provided for this release of AVEVA Insight.

Enhancements

The following new and enhanced functionality is delivered as part of this release.

• Alert configurator redesign: The Alerts configurator has been updated to be simpler and more intuitive. For more information on the Alerts configurator, see Create an alert.

• AVEVA Insight Help on docs.aveva.com: AVEVA Insight Help is now available on the AVEVA Documentation portal at docs.aveva.com. It can be accessed directly from within AVEVA Insight by selecting the help icon .

  Note: The AVEVA Insight help is no longer available at https://insight.connect.aveva.com/help/#/home/295463/10/11. You will need to update your bookmarks, if any, to the new location.

  The AVEVA Documentation portal allows you to find information quickly, stay up-to-date with the new product capabilities, and keep the documents most relevant to your daily work easily accessible. For more information on the improved functionality of this new Documentation portal, see AVEVA User Documentation.

• Create chart from URL: The ability to create charts using a URL-based query is now available in AVEVA Insight . For more information, see Use a URL-based query to create charts.

• New Look updates: The New Look is now enabled by default for all users. You can make the switch between the Classic Look and the New Look from the navigation rail.

• Production Run triggered by tag data collection: With the addition of the Production Run Data Collection feature, you can now trigger Insight Performance production runs using tags. A new configuration option for defining production run setting tags is also added. For more information, see Automated production runs using tag data collection.

• XY Plot: The XY Plot content option, which is a scatter chart that lets you see the correlation between a single tag (X-Axis) and a group of tags (Y-Axis), is now available in AVEVA Insight . To access the XY Plot option, select the Visualization content type when creating new content. For more information, see XY Plot.

Known Issues

The following is a list of known issues as of this release.

• Description: The text at the beginning of notes and paragraphs may not be visible in a small number of topics in the AVEVA Insight Help on the docs.aveva.com Documentation portal.

  Note: A high-priority defect has been logged with the third-party Documentation portal provider, and we anticipate a resolution in their next product release.

  Workaround: If you encounter this known issue in the documentation, you can view the complete topic content by creating a PDF of the affected topic.

  To create a PDF of the affected topic

  1. From the docs.aveva.com Documentation portal, select the affected topic.

  2. Select the Save PDF icon .

     A list of available options appears in a dropdown list.

  

  1. From the available options, select the option that best suits your purposes.

     A PDF of your selection is downloaded to your system.

The following new and enhanced functionality is delivered as part of this release.

• Newsfeed browsing page: There is now a dedicated page to display all of the available news stories in AVEVA Insight. From the News page, select Settings to open the new News Filter Settings panel. You can use this panel to search by tag, location, user, data source, usefulness, and type of news. For more information, see See news about your data and Using the News Filter Settings.

• Active Alerts list: The Active Alerts list allows you to view active alerts in one location. For more information, see View active alerts.

• Graphics Composer: You can now create and edit graphics in the content editor. For more information, see Graphic.

• Industrial Graphics: You can now incorporate industrial graphics in your content. For more information, see Industrial Graphic.

April 2023

The following new and enhanced functionality is delivered as part of this release.

• Time in State chart: The Time in State column type option has been added to column charts. With this option, you can visualize the time spent in each state for included discrete and string tags. For more information, see Column Chart.

March 2023

The following new and enhanced functionality is delivered as part of this release.

• Asset Types: Asset types are now available and can be accessed via Lists in the navigation rail. Asset types allow you to associate templates with assets to enable quick replication of similar types of assets. Asset type templates contain a list of properties which can be mapped to tags belonging to a given asset. Asset type templates also support the creation and replication of common entities associated with an asset, such as content, alerts, and analytics models. • Summary chart content type: A new Summary chart widget is added to the list of Visualization content types. This chart provides a quick summary into included tag values via several available retrieval modes and sorting methods. For more information, see Summary Chart.

• Utilization Time Summary chart widget: A new Utilization Time Summary chart widget is added to the list of Asset Efficiency content types, which displays a pie chart summarizing the utilization state types of the equipment asset that is associated with the chart for the selected time period. For more information, see Utilization Time Summary Chart.

February 2023 – Release 2

The following new and enhanced functionality is delivered as part of this release.

• Expressions: With the addition of Expressions to AVEVA Insight, you can now perform mathematical and logical operations on tag data. Engineering unit dimension specifications are used to determine how mathematical operations are performed. For more information on Expressions, refer to Chart data with expressions. For more specific information on dimensions math, see Implicit unit conversion.

• Utilization Status indicator: A new Utilization Status indicator, which displays the current utilization status of the equipment asset that is associated with the chart, is added to the list of Asset Efficiency content types. For more information, see Utilization Status.

• Comments on Line Chart: You can now create, view, and edit comments on a line chart in the new experience. For more information, see Comment on a line chart.

• AVEVA Insight Performance Action Bar buttons: The AVEVA Insight Performance Production Summary Chart widget now has action buttons for adding, editing, and reclassifying good or waste production counts. For more information, see Production Summary Chart.

• Description: The Efficiency tab data is not refreshed when the location is changed via the breadcrumb in the asset page.
