Data sources can be configured with Offline Data Source Detection to alert users when a data source has stopped receiving updates for an amount of time defined in the data source configuration.

When a data source is configured for this feature, AVEVA Insight generates a system digital tag in the format $System.{DataSourceName}.Heartbeat. When a data source is online, this tag receives a value of online (1). When a data source doesn't receive values for the specified amount of time, this tag will record a value of offline (0).

Once generated, you can view the system tag via search.

You can select the tag from search results to drill down into a chart view.

Once the system tag is created, you can define alerts using the system tag to send notifications to selected solution administrators when the tag value equals offline. For more information on alerts, see Define an alert.

To configure your data source for offline detection alerts

  1. Navigate to the Data Sources page from the Administration Panel.

  2. Either select a data source you wish to configure alerts for, or create a new data source.

    The Set Property Values dialog

  3. Under Offline Data Source Detection, enter a minimum offline duration, in minutes.

  4. Select OK to apply your changes and create the system tag.

Proceed to Define an alert to configure an alert for your system tag.
