AVEVA™ Process Simulation

Manage access to an RTS Area

  • Last UpdatedSep 11, 2025
  • 3 minute read

This section assumes that you have already configured some sequences in individual AVEVA Real-Time System (RTS) Areas. See Sequence folder structure for more information on Area folders.

This section also assumes that you have configured access to the <RTSInstall>\sequences folder according to the procedure in Configure access to the sequence folders. That is, there are some users or user groups with This folder only access to the <RTSInstall>\sequences folder, so that these users and user groups can only see the sequences whose folders are at the root of the <RTSInstall>\sequences folder. If you want to grant access to specific Area folders, you must grant these users or user groups specific access to each desired Area folder.

Grant permissions for a specific user or user group to an Area

  1. In Windows File Explorer, browse to the desired Area folder in the <RTSInstall>\sequences folder.

  2. Right-click the desired Area folder, and then select Properties.

    The Properties window appears.

  3. On the Security tab, select Advanced.

The Advanced Security Settings window appears.

  4. Select Add.

    The Permission Entry dialog appears.

If you don't see the Add, Remove, or View buttons, select Change permissions first to make the other buttons appear.

  5. Select Select a principal.

The Select User, Computer, Service Account, or Group dialog appears.

  6. In the Enter the object name to select list, enter the full name, including the domain, of the user or user group that you want to access the Area.

If you do not know the name of a user or user group, you can select Advanced to run a search. For a local user group, you should change the From this location entry to the name of the local computer.

  7. (Optional): Select Check Names to verify that the user names and user group names that you entered are valid.

  8. Select OK.

The Permission Entry dialog appears with the Principal entry filled in.

  9. In the Type list, select Allow.

  10. In the Applies to list, select This folder, subfolders and files.

  11. In the Basic Permissions area, select Full Control to select all the available permission checkboxes.

  12. Select OK.

On the Advanced Security Settings dialog, the new unique, non-inherited permissions appear in the Permission entries list.

Now the specified user or user group can access the Area and can see the sequences within the Area in RTS Console.

  13. Repeat steps 4 to 12 for each user or user group that you want to access the Area.

  14. Select OK to apply your permission changes and close the Advanced Security Settings dialog.
