Manage Model Types, Fluid Types, and Port Types

  • Last UpdatedSep 10, 2025

This section describes how to create, copy, rename, delete, and organize Model Types, Fluid Types, and Port Types within a Model Library. It also describes how to add instances of a Model Types or Fluid Types and Port Types to a simulation. These actions are available from the Model Library pane.

Activity

Directions

Create a Model Type

Right-click a blank space in the Model Library pane, and then select Create New Model.

Create a Port Type

Right-click a blank space in the Model Library pane, and then select Create New Port.

Create a Fluid Type

Right-click a blank space in the Model Library pane, and then select Create New Fluid.

Rename a Model Type, Fluid Type, or Port Type

Right-click the Type that you want to rename, and then select Rename. Enter a new name, and then press Enter.

Delete a Model Type, Fluid Type, or Port Type

Right-click the Type that you want to delete, and then select Delete.

Add a Model Type to a simulation

Drag the Model Type onto the simulation Canvas. This action creates a model instance of the Model Type in the simulation.

Change the order of a Model Type, Fluid Type, or Port Type in a Model Library

Drag the Type to the desired position in the Model Library. A highlighted bar appears while you are dragging the Type to indicate the current position.

Copy a Model Type, Fluid Type, or Port Type to another Model Library

Press and hold Ctrl, and then drag the Type in the source Model Library onto the tab for the destination Model Library.

Copy a Model Type, Fluid Type, or Port Type to the same Model Library

Press and hold Ctrl, and then drag the Type onto the Model Library. The copied Type always appears as the last object in the Model Library.

Replace a model instance on the simulation Canvas with another Model Type

From the Model Library, drag the Model Type on top of the model instance on the Canvas. Select Yes when prompted.

Notes: When you make a change to a Model Type, Fluid Type, or Port Type, it is automatically saved to the Model Library and, subsequently, the Repository. Because the Model Library that you are working in may be accessible by a number of users, it is important to ensure that you do not delete a Model Type, Fluid Type, or Port Type that may be used in other simulations.

Model Types, Port Types, and Fluid Types that have a bad status will have a red exclamation (!) badge overlaid on them in the Model Library. You can still drag the Type onto the Canvas and work with a model instance that uses the Type as you normally would. If you correct the errors associated with the Type, the badge disappears.

Example: Create a Model Type

  1. Right-click a blank space in the Model Library pane, and from the menu that displays, select Create New Model.

A new model with a placeholder name will be created; for example, Custom1.

  2. To rename the Model Type, simply select it in the Model Library, and enter a new name.

  3. To modify the properties of the model, right-click it in the Model Library, and from the menu that displays, select Edit.

The Model Type will be created and automatically persisted to the Model Library.

Example: Add a Model Type to a simulation

From the Model Library pane, select a Model Library, and drag the Model Type that you want to add to a simulation onto the Canvas.
