AVEVA™ Process Simulation

Scenarios for the AA3 example simulation

Step 1 - pressurize bed 1 and vent bed 2

This scenario pressurizes Bed 1. At the same time, it vents Bed 2 through the RV3 valve by opening the SV2_2 supply valve. It routes the unit feed entirely to Bed 1 as the SV1_1 supply valve opens and the SV1_2 supply valve closes. The duration is 30 seconds.

Step 2 - bed 1 produces and vent 2 keeps venting

This scenario draws product from Bed 1 by opening the SV5 and RV2 valves in the upper-left product line. The top RV2 valve on the exit line also opens, although the final exit valve, EX1, remains fully closed. Bed 2 continues to vent through the lower-right vent line during this scenario. The duration is 20 seconds.

Step 3 - pressurize bed 2 and vent bed 1

This scenario is the inverse of the initial pressurization step for Bed 1. It depressurizes Bed 1 and pressurizes Bed 2. That is, while Bed 2 pressurizes, Bed 1 vents through the RV3 valve by opening the SV2_1 valve. This scenario routes the unit feed entirely to Bed 2 as the SV1_2 supply valve opens and the SV1_1 supply valve closes. The duration is 30 seconds.

Step 4 - bed 2 produces and vent 1 keeps venting

This scenario is the inverse of the initial production step for Bed 1. It draws product from Bed 2 by opening the SV3 and RV2 valves in the upper-right product line. The RV1 valve on the exit line also opens, although the final exit valve, EX1, remains fully closed. Bed 1 continues to vent through the lower-left vent line during this scenario. The duration is 20 seconds.

All steps - the full cycle

This scenario combines the four steps into a single scenario that represents a full pressure swing adsorption (PSA) cycle. Initially, we pressurize Bed 1 and then set it into production while Bed 2 vents in parallel. Then, we reverse the actions to pressurize Bed 2 and then set it into production while Bed 1 vents in parallel. The duration of the full cycle is 110 seconds.

Run 5 cycles

This scenario runs five full PSA cycles so that you can observe how the cycles slowly approach identical, repetitive behavior.

Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

Run 10 cycles

This scenario runs ten full PSA cycles. The conditions at the initial and final moments of each cycle will slowly converge to the same numbers, indicating a cyclic behavior.
