Various arrangements for the Brayton power cycle, based on the idea of reducing the waste heat in the CO2 cooler, have been described in literature. These solutions aim at recuperating heat between the hot turbine and the cold compressor products, and additionally at the bypass compressor, which recompresses the bypassed CO2. We focus on this setup in this example and determine the optimum cycle and bypass rates that maximize efficiency.
The design requirements are:
-
Turbine inlet temperature is 700°C.
-
Turbine outlet pressure is 8.96 MPa.
-
The pressure drops for the individual recuperators and CO2 cooler are approximately 0.1 MPa.
