The purpose of Fluid Flow mode is to calculate the relief valve back pressures by using rated flow rates for tail pipes and the summation of required flows for common headers. In Fluid Flow mode, all of the Mixers provide a pressure balance and pipes use their nominal pipe inside diameter.
As in Process mode, we specify the flow at each source. The pipes calculate the relief valve back pressure based on the flare stack pressure at atmospheric pressure.
We model several relief contingencies for each section with different combinations of relieving relief valves. We save the relief contingencies as Snapshots to show the resulting superimposed back pressure on the different relief valves. Additionally, we model global plant-wide contingencies for which the results are shown in this document. We save these contingencies as the following Snapshots:
-
GLOB 1 – Global Cooling Water Failure
-
GLOB 2 – Global Power Failure
