AVEVA™ Process Simulation

Mode summary for the CC3 example simulation

  • Last UpdatedSep 19, 2024

We use Fluid Flow mode only as an intermediate step for moving the simulation from Process mode to Dynamics mode. Therefore, we do not include it in the mode summary.

The following table describes how the process models operate in each simulation mode.

Process

Dynamics

Purpose

Build a column simulation from heat and material balances.

Identify the peak relief flow rate for the partial power failure and total power failure scenarios.

Source (FEED)

Set the feed flow, temperature, pressure, and composition.

Set the feed temperature, pressure, and composition.

Feed Heat Exchanger (E3)

Set the column inlet temperature.

Set the column inlet temperature.

Column (T1)

Perform heat and material balances that meet the design requirements and reflect normal process operations.

Perform stage-wise dynamic mass and energy balances to calculate the pressure and stage compositions.

The column sump models the inventory of benzene accumulated by sieve tray weeping to provide the correct dynamic composition to the reboiler.

Air Condenser (A1)

Calculate the air flowrate and the heat transfer surface area.

Calculate the duty from the process flow, air flow, and heat transfer surface area.

Reflux Drum (V1)

Separate the flashed condenser vapor product.

Calculate the drum pressure and liquid level.

Reboiler (E2)

Calculate the steam flowrate and the heat transfer surface area.

Calculate the duty from the steam flow and heat transfer surface area based on the composition from the column sump.

Sink

Specify the desired product composition.

Set the boundary pressure
