A mixed light hydrocarbon feed stream enters the Column (P = 3,135 kPa, VF = 0.3) with the composition shown in the following table. The total molar flow rate of the feed stream is 408 kmol/h.

The feed stream enters the Column for separation of the components. The deethanizer Column includes 18 stages, a cryogenic condenser, and a steam-heated thermosiphon reboiler. The feed stream enters the Column at stage 9.
The simulation uses the following process control strategy:
-
A flow controller regulates the feed flowrate into the Column.
-
A level controller maintains the column sump level by manipulating the bottom product flowrate.
-
A temperature controller regulates the temperature (and vapor fraction) of the boilup by adjusting the flow of steam into the thermosiphon reboiler.
-
A level controller maintains the reboiler shell-side drum level by manipulating the condensate flowrate.
-
A pressure control loop regulates the overhead product flowrate and maintains the pressure at the top of the deethanizer.
-
A level controller on the reflux drum maintains the reflux flowrate.
-
A temperature controller regulates the temperature of the reflux stream by manipulating the refrigerant flowrate to the overhead condenser.
