Define totalized variables

While in the Model Writing role, you can identify variables in a model as totalized variables. The software automatically calculates the sum of all the totalized variable values across the model instances in the simulation. You can access these totalized values in your model and flowsheet equations by using the totalize function.

You can use the totalize function to access the total value of all the totalized variables in the simulation or to access the subtotal of a totalized variable that appears in a specific model library, model, or submodel. See the row for the totalize function in the table in Equation Functions for more details.

This feature is especially useful for determining economic costs, such as raw material costs, product gains, utility consumption, and utility costs.

Define a variable as a totalized variable

  1. Ensure that the Model Writing role is selected. See Roles, Roles.

  2. Open the Model Editor for the desired Model.

  3. Expand the Variables section.

  4. Select the Totalize icon to flag the variable as a totalized variable.
