  • 5 minute read

The Economics Library is a standard Model Library provided with AVEVA Process Simulation. It includes models to estimate the overall profitability and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of a process. You can use these models in any mode (Process, Fluid Flow, or Dynamics) across all standard Model Libraries.

The following table lists the models that are available in this Model Library. The table includes very brief descriptions for each model. The Model Help in the AVEVA Process Simulation user interface contains more detailed information for these models. See Open the Model Help for a Model Type or Model Library for more information.

Name

Type

Description

CapExCol

You can add this submodel to the compressor by pressing and holding Shift and then dragging this submodel from the Economics Library onto the compressor on the Canvas.

CapExHX

Submodel

Estimates the FOB purchase cost for a heat exchanger in the simulation. You must add this submodel to an existing heat exchanger in the simulation to include the heat exchanger in the CapEx calculations. You can add this submodel to the heat exchanger by pressing and holding Shift and then dragging this submodel from the Economics Library onto the heat exchanger on the Canvas.

CapExPump

You can add this submodel to the pump by pressing and holding Shift and then dragging this submodel from the Economics Library onto the pump on the Canvas.

CapExRenew

Submodel

Estimates the FOB purchase cost for a WindFarm, SolarFarm, Battery, or Electrolyzer model in the simulation. You must add this submodel to an existing equipment model from the Reneweables Library in the simulation to include the equipment model in the CapEx calculations. You can add this submodel to the equipment model by pressing and holding Shift and then dragging this submodel from the Economics Library onto the equipment model on the Canvas.

CapExVessel

Submodel

Estimates the FOB purchase cost for a vessel model, such as Drum or Separator model, in the simulation. You must add this submodel to an existing vessel model in the simulation to include the vessel model in the CapEx calculations. You can add this submodel to the vessel model by pressing and holding Shift and then dragging this submodel from the Economics Library onto the vessel model on the Canvas.

ColTray

Submodel

Provides the calculations needed to estimate the FOB purchase cost for a Column tray section in the simulation. The CapExCol submodel uses this submodel when the Column includes a tray section.

ColPack

Submodel

Provides the calculations needed to estimate the FOB purchase cost for a Column packed bed in the simulation. The CapExCol submodel uses this submodel when the Column includes a packed bed.

CombustGHG

Submodel

Calculates the GHG emissions from stationary combustion sources in your simulation.

DefCapEx

Submodel

Serves as a template for custom economic CapEx submodels and provides a basic framework for their development.

You can also use this submodel as the default submodel for capital cost economic evaluations. This submodel requires you to specify the estimated FOB purchase cost, which is typically provided by the equipment vendor or supplier. If you do not know the estimated FOB purchase cost, we recommend that you use one of the other CapEx submodels from the Economics Library or a custom CapEx submodel instead.

You must add this submodel to an existing equipment model in the simulation to include the equipment model in the CapEx calculations. You can add this submodel to the equipment model by pressing and holding Shift and then dragging this submodel from the Economics Library onto the equipment model on the Canvas.

DefDeprec*

Submodel

Serves as a template for defining a custom depreciation schedule of a project. By default, it does not implement a depreciation plan.

DefEcon*

Submodel

Serves as a template for custom economic models and provides a basic framework for their development.

DefEF*

Submodel

Provides a template for specifying the CO2, CH4, and N2O emission factors for a fuel. The EPA Center for Corporate Climate Leadership hosts a GHG Emission Factors Hub (https://www.epa.gov/climateleadership/ghg-emission-factors-hub) that includes current emission factors for GHG inventories.

DefMapWG*

Submodel

Provides a template for mapping a fluid’s components to a standard United States (U.S.) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) waste gas. You should use this submodel with the WasteCompMap parameter in the WasteGHG model.

ExampleUSGridEF*

Submodel

Provides an example set of CO2, CH4, and N2O emission factors for different electricity e-Grid Subregions in the U.S. The emission factors were taken from the latest data from EPA as of February 2023. (https://www.https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-40/chapter-I/subchapter-C/part-98#ap40.23.98_19.1)

HorizDrum*

Submodel

Provides the calculations needed to estimate the FOB purchase cost for a vessel model, such as a Drum or Separator, in the simulation. The CapExVessel submodel uses this submodel when the vessel model has a horizontal orientation.

MACRSDeprec*

Submodel

Provides the calculations for the Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) depreciation schedule for a project. You can use this replaceable submodel in the Summary model to use the MACRS depreciation schedule for your CapEx calculations.

NatGasEF

Submodel

Provides the CO2, CH4, and N2O emission factors for Natural Gas.

No2FuelEF

Submodel

Provides the CO2, CH4, and N2O emission factors for Distillate Fuel Oil No. 2.

No6FuelEF

Submodel

Provides the CO2, CH4, and N2O emission factors for Residual Fuel Oil No. 6.

PowerGHG

Submodel

Calculates the indirect GHG emissions associated with purchased power in your simulation.

Product

Submodel

Calculates the product value per time for a process stream or sink.

PurchasedGHG

Submodel

Calculates the GHG emissions from purchased gases in your simulation.

RawMatl

Submodel

Calculates the raw material cost per time for a process source or stream.

Sphere*

Submodel

Provides the calculations needed to estimate the FOB purchase cost for a vessel model, such as a Drum or Separator, in the simulation. The CapExVessel submodel uses this submodel when the vessel model has a spherical orientation.

SteamGHG

Submodel

Calculates the indirect GHG emissions associated with purchased steam in your simulation. Use this submodel only if you have not already accounted for direct emissions associated with steam generation for your process. For example, if your simulation includes a boiler, you should calculate direct emissions from the boiler fuel stream instead.

Summary

Model

Provides a central location to view total operating costs and edit global utility costs for the simulation. To use this model, drag it onto your simulation flowsheet. Default utility costs are provided based on typical process design heuristics.

SummaryGHG

Model

Provides a central location to view total GHG emissions for the simulation. For all GHG submodels in the simulation, this model calculates and displays the total emissions on a CO2 equivalent (CO2e) basis.

Utility

Submodel

Calculates the utility consumption cost per time for a process model.

VertDrum*

Submodel

Provides the calculations needed to estimate the FOB purchase cost for a vessel model, such as a Drum or Separator, in the simulation. The CapExVessel submodel uses this submodel when the vessel model has a vertical orientation.

WasteGHG

Submodel

Calculates the direct GHG emissions associated with combustion of waste gases.

* Only Model Writers can view these submodels.
