AVEVA™ Process Simulation

Summary for the F4 example simulation

The flare relief system is a set of relief valves, collection piping, a knockout drum, and a flare stack used to discard flammable gasses during unplanned over-pressuring of plant equipment.

The objective of this simulation is to:

  • Size the pressure relief valves, relief valve inlet pipes, and collection piping network.

  • Use the knockout drum to separate the fluid into its vapor and liquid phase.

  • Demonstrate the heat loss in pipes.

  • Calculate back pressure for the relief valves to check that high back pressure does not reduce the relieving capacity of the relief valve.

The following figure illustrates a flare relief network as modeled in AVEVA Process Simulation.
