AVEVA™ Process Simulation

Process descripton for the RR1 example simulation

  • Last UpdatedSep 19, 2024
  • 1 minute read

The process consists of the following:

  • Piping from each pass outlet in the vacuum charge heater to the vacuum transfer line.

  • The vacuum transfer line that feeds into the vacuum column flash zone.

  • Pipe enlargers that periodically increase the diameter of the vacuum transfer line to limit the approach to critical flow.

The following table outlines the design requirements for the vacuum transfer line:

    Specification

    Variable

    Value (SI)

    Value (US Refining)

    Comments

    Total Flow

    W

    97500 kg/hr

    214,950 lb/hr

    Flash Zone Operating pressure

    35 mmHg

    35 mmHg

    Maximum approach to critical velocity

    85%

    85%

Avoid critical velocity at any location in the vacuum transfer line. High velocity results in liquid entrainment.

Distance from fired heater to vacuum column.

    152.4 m

    500 ft

    Charge heater maximum outlet temperature

    404°C

    760°F

Avoid high temperature to prevent cracking and coke formation.

    Vacuum column inlet temperature

    395°C

    735°F
