By regressing experimental data to obtain the parameters in the modified Non-Random Two-Liquid (NRTL) expression, this equation of state makes an excellent representation of vapor-liquid equilibria for several highly non-ideal systems. The Huron-Vidal mixing rules are highly empirical in nature. However, the prediction of equilibria at low densities is reasonable. We can expect the equation of state to yield better results at higher pressures because we derive the mixing rules at the infinite pressure limit of the excess Gibbs free energy.
