AVEVA™ Process Simulation

Batch Distillation Library

  • Last UpdatedOct 15, 2021
  • 2 minute read

The Batch Library is an example Model Library provided with AVEVA Process Simulation. It provides models for the rigorous simulation of batch distillation.

We designed this Model Library to be used for process simulation in Process, Fluid Flow, and Dynamics modes.

Because this Model Library is an example Model Library, you must first import it into AVEVA Process Simulation to use its models in your simulations. You can import this Model Library from the %userprofile%\My Libraries\Examples folder.

The following table lists the models that are available in this Model Library. The table includes very brief descriptions for each model. The Model Help in the AVEVA Process Simulation user interface contains more detailed information for these models. See Open the Model Help for a Model Type or Model Library for more information.

Name

Type

Description

AC

Submodel

Provides a replaceable submodel to control the composition of the distillate stream of a column by changing the column reflux ratio. This submodel extends the Batch.Column model. While holding Shift, drag it onto an existing column in your simulation. To use this model, you should make a copy in your simulation-specific Model Library and update the component name in Eqn1.

Column

Model

Models the fractionation of vapor and liquid mixtures. This model applies a vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) stage model for the rigorous solution of multicomponent distillation. (VLLE is currently not available.)

Condenser*

Submodel

Models a condenser in the Batch.Column model.

FFC

Submodel

Provides a replaceable submodel to control the F-Factor of a column by changing the column top pressure or pot temperature. This submodel extends the Batch.Column model. While holding Shift, drag it onto an existing column in your simulation. To customize it, make a copy in your simulation-specific Model Library.

InternalTanks*

Submodel

Models a stream splitter in the Batch.Column model that allows one feed stream and up to 4 product streams.

Pot*

Submodel

Models a pot still in the Batch.Column model. The Drum type is only for cylindrical type. The default setting for heat transfer is NoHeat.

Source

Model

Sets the charge condition to the batch distillation column.

Split

Model

Models a stream splitter that allows one feed stream and multiple product streams. You can add up to 6 product streams.

Stage*

Submodel

Models a stage in the Batch.Column model. This submodel includes the calculations for the Contact Factor.

Tank

Model

Models a product tank for liquids only. The pressure is always constant.

* Only Model Writers can view these submodels.
