Configure a Model Type as a connection model

A connection model is a Model Type that you can use as a connector on the Canvas. It appears the same as a basic connector (a line) on the Canvas, but it has all the variables and the full functionality of the associated Model Type. Connection models allow you to adjust the information that appears on the Mini Inspector when you hover over a connector on the Canvas.

Simulation Builders can specify the default connection model that a simulation template uses and can show or hide the connection model on the Canvas. They cannot use a connection model if you hide it within its Model Library. See Change the connector type for more detailed information on how Simulation Builders can use connection models.

If you want to use a Model Type as a connection model, you must configure that Model Type so that it appears in the list of available connection models.

Configure a Model Type as a connection model

  1. Open the Model Editor for the Model Type.

  2. Expand the General section if it is not already visible.

  3. Select the Use as Connection Model checkbox.

The Model Type now appears in the list of connection models.
