Manage thermodynamic libraries

Open AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager

In AVEVA Process Simulation, on the Advanced tab, in the Thermo Data group, select Launch the Thermo Data Manager (TDM).

Open the Thermo Data Manager User Guide

In AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager, on the Help menu, select User Guide.

The documentation presented here is intended to be a quick primer on the creation and management of custom libraries. Please see the Thermo Data Manager User Guide for more detailed information regarding the procedures presented here as well as the more advanced features of AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager.

Create a custom library

In AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager, on the File menu, select New. The New library file dialog appears. In the File Name box, scroll to the end of the file path and change the asterisk (*) to the name that you want to use for your custom library.

We recommend that you create your custom libraries in the %userprofile%\My Thermo Data folder or in a sub-folder within My Thermo Data. AVEVA Process Simulation can use only libraries that appear in these folders. If the software does not detect the libraries in a sub-folder, it then checks for them in My Thermo Data.

Add a unary data bank to a custom library

In AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager, in the Library Type area, select Unary. In the Unary Type list, select the type of data that you want to work with. In the Registered Libraries tree, right-click the custom library, and then select Add New Databank. The Databank Name dialog appears. In the Name box, enter the name that you want to use for the data bank and then select OK.

Add a known component to a unary data bank

In AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager, in the Registered Libraries tree, right-click the data bank and then select Add Known Component. The Add Known Component dialog appears. In the Databank list, select the default data bank that contains the component that you want to add. Select the browse button . The Select Component dialog appears. Use the filters to locate the component and then select it in the list of components. The component alias now appears in the Alias box. Select OK.

Also, if you already know the SimSci alias for the component, you can enter the alias directly into the Alias box instead of browsing for the component.

Modify unary thermodynamic data

In AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager, in the Registered Libraries tree, select the data bank for which you want to modify the thermodynamic data. In the list of components in the data bank, select the checkboxes for the components for which you want to modify data. Use the tabs to the right of the list of components to locate and change the thermodynamic data. Save the library.

Add a binary data bank to a custom library

In AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager, in the Library Type area, select Binary. In the Binary list, select the type of data that you want to work with. In the Method list, select the thermodynamic method that you want to work with. In the Registered Libraries tree, right-click the custom library, and then select Add New Databank. The Databank Name dialog appears. In the Name box, enter the name that you want to use for the data bank and then select OK.

Add components to a binary data bank

In AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager, in the Registered Libraries tree, select the data bank. On the Quick Entry tab, in the Select Components area, select the Component i browse button . The Select Component dialog appears. Use the filters to locate the component and then select it in the list of components. The component alias now appears in the Component i box. Select the Component j browse button . The Select Component dialog appears. Use the filters to locate the component and then select it in the list of components. The component alias now appears in the Component j box. Select Get Data. In the Edit Data table, enter data for the component pair and then select Save Data.

Also, if you already know the SimSci aliases or SimSci IDs for the components, you can select Alias or SimSciID, and then enter the alias names or IDs directly into the Component i and Component j boxes instead of browsing for the components.

Modify binary thermodynamic data

In AVEVA Thermodynamic Data Manager, in the Registered Libraries tree, select the data bank for which you want to modify the thermodynamic data. In the list of components in the data bank, select the checkboxes for the components for which you want to modify data. On the Data tab, in the Reference Component list, select the component that you want to use as component i. In the data table, change the data as needed. Save the library.

Use a custom library in AVEVA Process Simulation

Ensure that your custom library appears in the %userprofile%\My Thermo Data folder or in a sub-folder within My Thermo Data. In AVEVA Process Simulation, open the Fluid Editor for a compositional fluid. In any of the Data Bank areas, select Expand and add your custom data banks to the list of selected data banks.
