AVEVA ™ Asset Strategy Optimization

Uninstall the widgets

  • Last UpdatedMay 16, 2025
  • 2 minute read

Widgets, once installed, will remain visible in the Dashboard or in the side panel of the Dashboard in design mode. If widgets are considered obsolete, they can be uninstalled.

Background

Installed widgets manifest themselves in two ways:

  • The original installation package (as a zip-file) is still present in the pick-up folder but renamed as .bak file

  • The widget is available in the deployment folder as a .xml file

Uninstallation procedure

To remove an installed widget, remove the .xml file from the Deployment folder. Optionally, the .bak file could also be deleted, but it can still be kept as a backup, if a reinstallation is required in the future.

Tip: To re-install a widget, rename the .bak file in the pick-up folder back to .zip file; restart Asset Strategy Optimization and open the Dashboard for any scope. This will reinstall the widget.

To uninstall the widgets

To uninstall widgets, the system administrator should follow these steps:

  1. Make sure Asset Strategy Optimization is not running.

  2. Locate the pick-up and deployment folders. This can be found in the configuration file Risk-based_Maintenance.exe.config, which is located in the installation folder of Asset Strategy Optimization

  3. Edit this file and locate the following keys:
    <add key="DashBoardItemsPickupDirectory" />
    <add key="DashBoardItemsDeployDirectory" /> The folder names are mentioned in the value string, e.g.

    <add key="DashBoardItemsPickupDirectory" value="C:\Asset Strategy Optimization Data\Dashboard\Pickup" />
    <add key="DashBoardItemsPickupDirectory" value="C:\Asset Strategy Optimization Data\Dashboard\Deployment" />
    Tip: If no ´value´ element can be found, then the folder to look for is the installation folder of Asset Strategy Optimization!

  4. Go to the deployment folder and locate the widget to be removed (it is an .xml file; you may inspect the contents of the .xml file to learn more about the name of the widget)

  5. Remove the .xml file. This operation requires sufficient user rights. In case the user has no such rights, consult the local administrator

  6. Option: to also remove the backup file of the widget, locate the corresponding .bak file in the pick-up folder and remove it.

  7. (Re)start Asset Strategy Optimization (with appropriate rights, e.g. admin)

  8. In the FMECA screen, open a folder on the left and choose a FMECA system

  9. In the middle part of the screen, choose the displayed model as example scope for the Dashboard; the Dashboard icon will now show up in color in the menu

  10. Open the Dashboard function by clicking the Dashboard icon in the menu bar.

  11. Select the Design mode by selecting this option in the Dashboard menu bar. This will cause all the widgets in the deployment folder to be loaded

    The removed widget(s) should no longer appear in the list.
