Property Grid and Properties Screen

For FMECA objects, data can be entered as properties. There are two options for this:

  • Property Grid

  • Properties Screen

Property Grid

The Property Grid is a pane on the right side of the screen displaying all properties of a certain object, which can be edited. The pane may also include buttons that will open other screens. All information displayed in the Property Grid can also be found in the Properties Screen. Changes made in the Properties Grid are also updated in the Properties Screen and vice versa.

Fields in the Property Grid

The Property Grid contains field names on the left side and the corresponding fields on the right side. There are various types of fields, such as text editors, or drop-down lists.

Text Field

Many of the fields in the Property Grid are multi-line text fields. These fields can hold a virtually infinite number of text lines. You may activate these fields by clicking in them. Then you may type multiple lines of text. As along as the field is active, you may use the [Enter] button to create new lines in the field. The field height will grow with each newly added line. If the field becomes too high, you may shrink the field by 'grabbing' the lower-right corner of the field and dragging it upwards. You may then scroll through the text in the field.

Formatting in text fields

The text fields may be formatted using different fonts, font sizes, font colors, lists etc. The formatting options are accessible by clicking in the field with the right mouse button and choosing one of the options shown:

Currency fields

Some fields in the Property Grid contain currencies that will be rounded numbers. One example is the field Production loss, which will show whole, rounded numbers, even though a decimal number has been entered. Non-numeric fields will be ignored when entered. When saved, the currency symbol will be added to the result.

Property Screen

The Property screen shows specific data of the various FMECA objects that Asset Strategy Optimization supports. It is displayed when an object is double clicked, or by right-clicking with the mouse and choosing for Properties. Property Screens may contain several tabs, which logically group together coherent data. Some tabs will become visible when optional modules are activated.

Property Screens are used in more areas than the Property Grid, e.g. in the FM Library.
