Preventive Maintenance Strategy

When considering preventive maintenance actions and CLM's, there are two options to define how a simulation will deal with preventive maintenance: Keep planning and Delay planning. The difference between these two options is explained here.

Simulation

During simulation the properties of different objects influence each other. In some situations the simulation module will decide what properties prevail. The preventive maintenance strategy settings allows the user to influence how the simulation behaves in relation to calculated failure moments.

Keep planning

With this option a CBM action like ' replace every month' will be scheduled exactly once a month, without taking into account any intermediate downtime for maintenance. Choosing this option means that the CBM action will be scheduled exactly according to schedule, indifferent of possible other actions. In other words: if the action takes place with a frequency of 1000 hours, then execution of the action will be on 1000, 2000, 3000, hours and so on.

Delay planning

With this option a CBM action like 'replace every month' will, in case of a week downtime, be only schedule one month plus one week after the previous moment. Choosing this option means that the CBM action will be scheduled every month, plus a delay based on any preventive or corrective action that interferes. For example, a part with two actions with a frequency of 500 hours and an action with a frequency of 750 hours, with a repair time of 10 hours, the first action will take place at 500 hours. The second action will be scheduled on 750 hours + 10 hours as a result of the repair time of the first action, or 760 hours. Explanation: during the 10 hours of repair time, the part was not in use, so planning for the next maintenance action of 750 can be delayed with the 10 hours repair time.
