Generic Business Objectives defined in the FM Library

Just like in the FMECA screen, a set of business objectives can be defined in the FM Library. However, there can be only one such set of business objectives. Once defined, the effect values of each business objective can be used in the FM library structures. When building up an FMECA structure from the FM library, these effect values will be copied as well. It is up to the user to make use of the generic business objectives in the FM library. If left empty, then while copying a structure to the FMECA screen the effect values in the FMECA structure will be empty, too. During a merge operation, possibly existing effect values in the FMECA structure will be replaced and be set to empty as well.

During a copy or merge operation, the Business Objectives (provided they are filled) will be copied. The following rules apply:

  • If the value to be copied is known and identical on both sides, then it will be copied and it will overwrite any existing value

  • If the value to be copied is empty, then no copy action will take place (the existing value will not change)

  • If the value to be copied is not known at the other end, then the value will not be copied (the existing value will not change)

  • The user is responsible to make sure that chosen values on both sides will be identical to enable a successful copy operation

To create Business Objectives for the whole FM-Library, do the following:

  1. Open the FM-Library

  2. Select any element in the FM-Library

  3. Select the option FM-Library > Business Objectives Library in the menu bar

  4. Using the left New button, create a new Business objective;

  5. Using the button Delete, delete an obsolete Business Objective

  6. For each created Business Objective, create one or more effects,

    1. using the New button on the right; the Class value will set the order;

    2. Delete an effect with the Delete button to the right

  7. When done, close the screen using the Close button

    Note: The create business objective will be effective on all folders and other content of the FM-Library.

Note: These Business objectives will be of value during a copy or merge operation from the FM-Library to the FMECA tree. Business Objectives and their effects will only be copied over when both the name of the business objective and the text of the effect are identical on both sides.
