STEP 5: Define the effects on Business Objectives

After entering the failure data, the next step is to define what the effects would be of failure on the business objectives. These data are stored in the FMECA Grid.
FMECA Grid
The FMECA Grid presents an overview of the parts that are present in the selected (sub)systems. For each part an overview is presented of the present failure modes. Next to each failure mode are a number of columns that can store the effects on the business objectives. The number of columns is equal to the number of business objectives defined in STEP 2: Define business objectives. Per business objective a choice can be made among the classes that were defined in STEP 3: Define classifications and weighting factors. In the column of each business objective the effect on failure at the level of the subsystem can be entered. With the data in the FMECA Grid comprehension of how failure effects the business objectives is increased.

In the FMECA Grid, the effects on the business objects are defined per part
Note: For more information on how to work with the FMECA Grid, see topic FMECA Grid.
Reports
The report “Risk Classification” gives an overview of the failure modes and effects per part, as well as relevant failure data e.g. failure cause, condition, and MTTF. The parts are sorted on Tag number.
