AVEVA ™ Asset Strategy Optimization

Strategy for Apply FM library templates

The function Apply FM library templates was designed for situations where:

  • The Asset tree only contains a basic structure reflecting an existing, external system, which is defined up until the parts level.

  • Details of lower levels are intended to be copied from Library templates.

  • The Library is filled with different types of templates that will be used as blueprints for different elements in the Asset tree.

  • Some fields of the part in the Asset tree (for example the part name and its tag) should be retained, and not overwritten by the fields from the Library Templates, as they reflect real values from an external system.

Asset Strategy Optimization supports this strategy as follows:

  • All Library templates use one of the available free fields to uniquely identify it. This is called a matching value.

  • The user decides which of the templates to apply to each of the parts in the Asset tree structure by entering the respective template matching value in the same free field in the Asset tree.

After completing these steps, when applying the Apply FM library templates function it will:

  • Match the matching fields of each part in scope in the Asset tree with those of all Library templates.

  • Create a list displaying the proposed locations where the templates will be applied based on the matches found.

  • Let the user choose which of the proposed templates should actually be applied.

Applying the Library templates will mean that:

  • Each matched Library template will be copied to all matching locations in the Asset tree as indicated in the proposed match list.

  • Just before the templates are copied to the Asset tree, any existing data below that level will be deleted first from the Asset tree.

  • For each match, only the values of the template part fields that are selected in the configuration screen called Part merge field settings will overwrite those of the original part in the Asset tree. These configuration settings are managed in the desktop version.

  • For each match, the underlying structure of the template part will be copied over underneath the original part in the Asset tree.

Note: As a result of the Apply FM library templates function, the Asset tree may be changed drastically, while the changes made by this operation cannot be undone! It is recommended to create a backup of your tree structure before using this function.
