Search and Change

Using the search functionality allows you to search for objects in the tree structures. You can search for the following objects:
-
Serial and parallel subsystems
-
Parts
-
Components
-
Failure causes
-
Maintenance actions
-
CLMs
You can search within a library (FM Library, FMECA Systems and Simulation Models) or within a selected system, subsystem or part. When you choose to search the entire library, you can search at failure cause level. When searching within a system, subsystem or part, you can search at maintenance action level.
Search
After you have selected the object within which you can search, the Search
button will now be available in the toolbar. Clicking this button will open the Search
window below. You can also open the window by using the shortcut key combination <Ctrl>-f

Search screen
In the tree structure, you can search for objects at various levels. This means that, for example for finding maintenance actions for a certain failure cause and a certain component, you can specify the parameters for the component, failure cause, and maintenance action as search criteria. In this way, you can quickly get the results you want.
You can enter the search criteria at the level of the object that you search. When searching for components, you cannot specify search criteria for failure causes and maintenance actions.
With each search action, you can save user-defined search options and settings. As a result, these settings are displayed each time you open the Search window. These settings are user-dependent, and will not be overwritten until a different user specifies different search criteria.
Performance of Search
Search works fastest when you do a search over All FMECA Systems. This is valid for searching most object types, except for maintenance where it is only possible to search over the selected object. Searching on Selected Object always takes much more time because for every result found Asset Strategy Optimization needs to check if the object is a child of the selected object.
Types of Search Fields
To search for objects, you can specify different types of searches. You can search by:
-
Text values
When searching by text values, you can use a text string to search for one or more objects. You can search for object values that match the entire search value, values whose initial letters match the specified value, or values whose last letters match the specified value. When searching for text values, you can choose between two search options, namely the entry field and the search option proper.

-
Selecting the option for a text search.
In the "Name" and "Tag" fields, you can enter text values by which you will search. This is a free-text field. In the "Search" field, you can choose between "Whole Word", "Part of Word", "Begin", and "End".
Using the "Whole Word" option as search criterion, only the "Gear rear" part will be found. If you selected the "Begin" option, "Gear rear" as well as "Gear front" will be found because this is also a component of the selected object that meets the search criteria. If you selected "End", then only "Gear rear" will be found as it is the only component meeting the search criteria.
Example
Using the search string "Gear" based on search option "Whole Word" only the component "Gear" will be found. Using search option "Begin" will also find "Gear wheel" but also "Gear casing" because this may also be a component of the selected object meeting the search criteria. The option "Part of Word" would find "Gear wheel", but also "Rear Gear", or "Rear Gear casing", since all contain the word "Gear".
-
Numerical values
When searching by numerical values, you can search for numerical values that are:
-
Greater than or equal to (> = X) the specified value
-
Greater than (> X) the specified value
-
Equal to (=) the specified value
-
Less than (X <) the specified value
-
Less than or equal to (X <=) the specified value.
-
Within the range of (< =X <=) the specified values
For numerical searches, you can choose between the following search options:

Search field 1

Search fields 2 and 3
You can set the search method by the search options of the search entry fields. On specifying a search option other than "< X <", search entry field 2 is disabled. When you select the "< X <" option, search entry field 2 is enabled for specifying a search range. When you select the "<Empty>" search option, the search is not by MTTF.
This also applies to the MTTCC and Frequency fields when searching for maintenance actions.

Options
For searching with options, you use a drop-down list. By selecting an option from the drop-down list, your search will be by that option. By selecting the "<Empty>" option, no search option is used.

Selecting from a list
For searching for a maintenance action by, for example, CBM type "MTTC", you must select the "MTTC" option from the drop-down list. The search results will then contain only those maintenance actions that meet this criterion.
Possible Searches
For each of the object types by which you can search, you can also search by a number of fields

Search all objects
To search for all objects without a specific characteristic, you can use a wildcard (the % symbol).
-
Enter a % symbol as search term.
-
Select in searching: Part of word.
-
Then click "Search".

Searching for all objects using a wildcard character
If you search as displayed above, the search results window will display all parts of the selected system or all FMECA systems (depending on the selected value at the top of the search window).
Particulars
-
You can only search for failure causes without FBM/CBM/UBM during a search for failure causes. This option is not available when searching for maintenance actions.
-
Searching for maintenance actions without CBM Maintenance is only possible if the maintenance actions to be searched have CBM as their strategy.
-
Searching for maintenance actions is also only possible with a search within a system, library, subsystem, or part. This option is not available for a database-wide search.
Search Results
The search action results are displayed in the Search Results window. Double-clicking a search result, takes you directly to the relevant object in the tree structure.
